The 24th Annual W. E. B. Du Bois Lecture will feature Dr. Reiland Rabaka on the subject “W. E. B. Du Bois and the Civil Rights Movement.” The lecture will take place at UMass Amherst on February 21, 2018 at 4 p.m. in the Old Chapel. Dr. Rabaka will also present the lecture in Great Barrington, on February 23, 2018 at the Mahaiwe Theater, for the 150th anniversary of Du Bois’s birthday celebration. Both events are free and open to the public.

Reiland Rabaka is Professor of African, African American, and Caribbean Studies in the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he also has affiliations with the Department of Women & Gender Studies, Humanities Program, School of Education, Graduate Program in Critical Theory, College of Media, Communication & Information, and College of Music. He is the author of more than fifty scholarly articles and book chapters, as well as more than a dozen books including: Du Bois’s Dialectics; Africana Critical Theory; Against Epistemic Apartheid: W.E.B. Du Bois and the Disciplinary Decadence of Sociology; Forms of Fanonism: Frantz Fanon’s Critical Theory and the Dialectics of Decolonization; Concepts of Cabralism: Amilcar Cabral and Africana Critical Theory; The Negritude Movement; Hip Hop’s Inheritance; Hip Hop’s Amnesia; and The Hip Hop Movement.
